Want to see a really interesting science trick? We're going to turn water into wine! Find out how to do this cool chemistry trick.

You Will Need :

  • Medicine Dropper
  • 2 Empty Glasses
  • Half a Glass of Water
  • 1 M Sodium Hydroxide Solution
  • Phenolphthalein
  • 3 M Hydrochloric Acid

Process :

It's important to use a dropper for each ingredient, as some are damaging to human tissue.
Put three drops of Phenolphthalein in an empty glass. In the other empty glass add three drops of Hydrochloric Acid. In the glass of water, add a couple drops of Sodium Hydroxide solution.
Transfer the contents of the glass of water to the empty glass of Phenolphthalein. The water should now turn red, or into wine.
Transfer the now red liquid in the empty glass of Hydrochloric Acid, to turn it back clear.
The change of color is due to photons, and the amount of light that is allowed to be absorbed by the molecule of the Phenolphthalein. The more or less energy it's allowed to take in, the different colors the reaction produces. The Sodium Hydroxide, and the Hydrochloric acid help initiate the changes of the Phenolphthalein.
